Lamps Plus Tip: Lighted ceiling fans can be great energy-savers and add to your decor at the same time. A little planning can help you get more life out of your ceiling fan light fixtures. Ceiling fan lights work best at the very center of a room. The exception is in a bedroom -- for safety reasons, experts recommend not hanging the fan directly over the bed. In many houses, the proper wiring is already in place, but if not, you may need to get some help from a licensed electrician to install your fan. If the fan will go outside on a covered porch or patio, make sure all the components and wiring have been weatherproofed for safety. Check to be sure there will be at least 7 feet of clear space under the lighted ceiling fan once it's installed. If you have low ceilings, you may need to avoid elaborate fans.
